Cubs win!

May 10, 2008

Yesterday was my nephew’s first Cubs game!  We took the train downtown to Wrigley Field.

Our seats were high up, and it was rather chilly out – I ended up buying gloves, and a blanket.  The Cubs gave up a run in the first inning (pitcher was Ted Lilly), but later on Derrek Lee hit a homerun!  The Cubs took the lead against the Diamonbacks, 3 to 1, and Kerry Wood pitched for the ninth.   He struck out Chris Young, and then the remaining two grounded out…so CUBS WIN!

Hey,hey, holy Mackeral!

March 31, 2008

Today is Opening Day for the Cubs (it is also Ernie Banks Day, as he is being honored today).

Both my parents are baseball fans, and I remember taking the train downtown to go see the Cubs during the day, or driving to Comisky to see the White Sox as a famliy. My mom has loved baseball ever since she was a young girl, and Dad loved his White Sox.  I love baseball, too.   I may not know all the stats, even the ins and outs of the “in-field fly” rule, but I love to go the park and watch the game, and be a part of the atmosphere.

My nephews will get to go to their first baseball game this year – that’s pretty special in my book.
